Our Commitment to Accessibility
Al Zuni Heritage is dedicated to preserving indigenous cultural legacies by sourcing authentic, handcrafted Native American jewelry and Southwest art directly from skilled artisans. We believe that this mission must be supported by an experience that welcomes people of all abilities.
We are working to ensure that customers, visitors, artists, partners, and members of our community can access information, browse our collection, complete purchases, request assistance, and communicate with us without unnecessary barriers. Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, and we approach it with care, humility, and a commitment to improvement.
Standards and Conformance
Our current target is substantial conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.1 Level AA. These internationally recognized guidelines explain how to make digital content more perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.
We also seek to support our responsibilities under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and, where applicable to our services or business relationships, the accessibility requirements associated with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
A statement of conformance does not mean that every page or feature is free from all barriers. It reflects the standard we use to guide design, development, content, testing, and remediation work.
Accessibility Features of Our Website
Our website is designed and maintained with the following accessibility practices in mind:
-
Keyboard navigation
Native links, buttons, form controls, and other interactive elements are intended to be reachable in a logical order using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, without requiring a mouse.
-
Screen reader compatibility
We use semantic HTML, headings, labels, landmarks, and ARIA attributes where appropriate to communicate page structure, control names, status, and purpose.
-
Visible focus indicators
Focusable controls are intended to display a visible keyboard focus indicator so users can identify their current position on the page.
-
Alternative text
Meaningful product, editorial, and informational images are provided with descriptive alternative text when an image conveys information needed to understand the content.
-
Color contrast
Text and essential interface components are designed to meet WCAG Level AA contrast ratios, including 4.5:1 for most body text and 3:1 for large text and interface boundaries.
-
Resizable text
Pages are intended to support text resizing and browser zoom up to 200 percent without loss of essential content, controls, or functionality.
-
Captions and transcripts
When video or audio is published, we seek to provide synchronized captions, transcripts, or an equivalent text alternative appropriate to the content.
-
Reduced motion support
Nonessential animation is limited, and supported experiences respect operating system preferences that request reduced motion.
Accessibility in Our Physical Stores
We aim to provide a welcoming in-person experience. Building features can vary by location, lease conditions, and local requirements, so we encourage visitors to contact the relevant store before traveling if a specific accommodation is needed.
Entrances and wheelchair access
We seek to maintain accessible routes and entrances at our retail locations. If the primary entrance presents a barrier, staff can provide information about an alternative accessible entrance where one is available.
Accessible restrooms
Accessible restrooms are available where the location includes customer restrooms and the building supports such facilities. Please contact us in advance to confirm availability at a particular location.
Service animals
Service animals are welcome in customer areas in accordance with applicable law. Staff will not require documentation or ask about the nature of a person's disability.
Accessible parking
Accessible parking may be available in store-controlled lots or shared facilities. Because some locations rely on municipal or landlord-managed parking, availability can vary.
Assistance upon request
Store associates can assist with viewing merchandise, reading product details, accessing displays, completing a transaction, or identifying a quieter area for conversation when reasonably available.
Assistive Technologies We Support
Our goal is to support common combinations of modern browsers, operating systems, and assistive technologies. Our design and testing practices consider:
- Screen readers, including current or recent versions of NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.
- Keyboard-only navigation and alternative keyboard input devices.
- Voice recognition and voice control software.
- Browser zoom, text enlargement, and operating system magnification tools.
- High contrast, increased contrast, and reduced motion preferences where supported by browsers and operating systems.
Results may vary when older browsers, discontinued assistive technologies, or unusual combinations of browser extensions are used.
Ongoing Efforts and Continuous Improvement
Accessibility work continues as our collection, content, technology, and retail operations evolve. Our ongoing efforts may include:
- Automated and manual reviews of representative website pages and purchase flows.
- Keyboard and screen reader testing of important customer tasks.
- User testing and consideration of feedback from people with disabilities.
- Accessibility guidance for employees, content editors, designers, and developers.
- Review of new features and significant changes before or after release.
- Prioritization and remediation of confirmed barriers based on severity and customer impact.
We consider accessibility throughout the lifecycle of our services rather than treating it as a one-time project.
Known Limitations and Areas Under Improvement
We want to be transparent that some visitors may still encounter barriers. Our website contains a growing catalog of detailed jewelry and art imagery, historical content, and services connected to outside providers. Current areas under review may include:
- Older product images or archival editorial images that may have incomplete or overly brief alternative text.
- Complex product details, including visual descriptions of stone variation, scale, texture, and craftsmanship, that may not yet provide equivalent descriptive information in every case.
- Older documents or downloadable files that may not be fully structured for screen reader navigation.
- Embedded payment, shipping, map, social media, or customer support tools that may not provide a consistent keyboard or screen reader experience.
- Occasional focus order, status announcement, or zoom reflow issues in newly released or frequently updated features.
- Video or audio published before current review procedures that may not yet include complete captions or transcripts.
Our response to a reported barrier
If a barrier prevents you from accessing product information or completing a purchase, please contact us. We will make a reasonable effort to provide the information or service through an accessible alternative while we investigate the underlying issue. We prioritize barriers affecting essential shopping, payment, account, and customer service tasks.
Third-Party Content
Some parts of our website and retail operations rely on third-party services, such as embedded media, social platforms, maps, payment processors, fraud prevention services, shipping calculators, delivery tracking tools, scheduling systems, and customer support widgets.
These providers may have their own accessibility practices and technical limitations. Although Al Zuni Heritage does not control every aspect of third-party content, we consider accessibility when selecting and reviewing providers, communicate confirmed concerns when possible, and seek practical alternatives when a third-party tool creates a barrier.
If you cannot use a third-party feature, contact us so we can help complete the task through another available method.
Alternative Formats and Assistance Requests
You may request product information, care instructions, receipts, policies, order documentation, or other customer materials in an alternative format. Available formats depend on the source material and may include accessible HTML, plain text, a tagged electronic document, large print, or a verbal explanation.
How to make a request
- Contact us by email, phone, or mail using the details in the Feedback and Contact section.
- Identify the product, order, document, webpage, or information you need. If relevant, include the page address or product name.
- Tell us your preferred format and any deadline related to the request.
- Let us know the best accessible method for responding to you.
You are not required to disclose a diagnosis or explain the nature of your disability. We may ask limited questions only when needed to understand the requested format or accommodation.
Feedback and Contact
We welcome feedback from people who use our website, visit our stores, or interact with our services. Please tell us what you were trying to do, what barrier you experienced, and what browser or assistive technology you were using, if you are comfortable sharing that information.
Accessibility contact
Response time
We aim to acknowledge accessibility inquiries within 2 business days. Requests that require technical investigation, document remediation, vendor coordination, or a specific accommodation may take longer. We will provide progress updates and an expected timeframe when additional time is needed.
Complaint and escalation process
If you believe your concern has not been resolved, reply to the original correspondence and request review by the Accessibility Coordinator or a member of management. Include the date of your original request and any response you received. The escalated concern will be reviewed by someone who was not solely responsible for the initial response whenever reasonably possible.
Compatibility Statement
The Al Zuni Heritage website is intended to work with current and recent versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, together with assistive technologies supported by those browsers and operating systems.
For the most reliable experience, we recommend using the latest stable version of your browser and assistive technology, enabling JavaScript where required for shopping and account functions, and applying available security and accessibility updates.
Older browsers and assistive technology versions may not support modern accessibility standards consistently. If an unsupported combination prevents access, contact us for assistance or an alternative way to obtain information and complete your request.
